Head in the Clouds – The Wispy Waves of Social Media

Social media is often the place where people look for new and trending hairstyles, hair hacks, or cool new colors. It should be no surprise then that some of the hottest trends come from the likes of Instagram, TikTok, and other platforms where influencers and celebrities show off their new looks. In mid-February the social media hairstyle world was taken by storm when the iconic 90s supermodel Cindy Crawford debuted a new “cloud haircut” in an Instagram post by celebrity hairstylist Dimitris Giannetos and received awes and admiration.

WHAT IS THE CLOUD HAIRCUT?

The trendy cloud haircut combines soft, voluminous layers with a light and playful cloud-like bounce that creates a natural movement and lift. The effect can be achieved by using a razor over traditional scissors to create a well-blended and textured layering finish adding bounce without harsh lines. This extra soft dimension can be further accentuated with curls and waves. The razored layers make a big impact on the volume and look of the hair strands especially on mid-length to long hair.

THE TECHNIQUE

The cloud haircut can be achieved through precise layering techniques. It’s important to start with longer interior sections of hair to build volume at the crown before adding face-framing layers that soften toward the ends. Subtle point cutting and slide cutting can remove weight while preserving hair’s natural movement.

What’s great is that this can work on many hair types to give fine hair instant lift and thick hair more manageability. It can transform voluminous layers into something lighter and more playful and even boost a bob.
