Hair extensions are a wonderful way to transform your client’s look and for them to make a statement. From adding volume and length to adopting a new color or style, hair extensions can be your client’s ticket to a boost of confidence that can’t be beat. The life of hair extensions must be taken into consideration however, and this is especially true in the summer, where heat damage can threaten hair of any type. Here are a handful of ways that your clients can get the most out of their new hair between visits to the salon.
Not Using the Right Products
Leave-in conditioners, serums, and some hairstyling products are safe to use in hair extensions, but products containing harsher chemicals such as sulfates should be avoided because those can damage the bonds.
Too Much UV/Thermal Exposure
Hair and extensions are naturally exposed to more heat in the summer, so relying less on heat styling can help reduce damage over time.

Not Detangling and Brushing
Brushing will help keep hair extensions silky and smooth and help to avoid tangling. It’s recommended, however, to brush only when the hair is dry to avoid potential breakage.

Too Much Washing
Washing hair when necessary can help to restore texture and shine and to remove product buildup. When washing, however, it’s recommended to avoid shampoos and conditioners with alcohols or sulfates.
