Curtain bangs may never really go out of style but lately they’ve been very popular with celebrities and influencers. Some celebrities are rarely seen without their face-framing-fringe, and while the look requires a little bit of work to style and maintain it’s worth the effort. Here are some tips to always give your client brilliant curtain bangs:
BLOW-DRY FORWARD
Rather than parting the hair to blow-dry it, dry the whole fringe forward over the face. Curl the hair around a round brush as it’s pulled forward to help it settle into the rest of the haircut before parting it to finish the blow dry.

USE PRODUCT
Using a bit of mousse can help the bangs maintain their shape and add a bit of texture. Applying mousse to the brush and then blow drying can help increase volume. Afterwards the hair can be shaped with fingers and styling cream.

USE AN IRON
Using a curling iron can help give curtain bangs a delightful sweep or light curl to pair well with beachy waves or curly hair, while a flat iron can give them a sleek, straight look perfect for straight hair. Be sure to use heat protectant beforehand and apply a light mist of hairspray to help set them in place.

Special consideration should be given to different hair types as well, since not all types are equal and naturally lay and act differently. Here are some quick tips for different hair types:
STRAIGHT HAIR
Straight hair is perfect for creating a softer, wispier version of curtain bangs. It’s ideal if you focus on a light lift starting at the roots and then blow-dry to get a nice, airy feel.

WAVY HAIR
Curtain bangs work beautifully with wavy hair that has natural movement. It’s ideal to keep them slightly longer and layered softly so that they’re easily parted. Use a light wave spray and style the bangs away from the face using a diffuser or a round brush.

CURLY / COARSE HAIR
With curly or coarse hair, it’s important to blow dry the bangs with tension but to focus on stretching a smoothing rather than straightening flat. Use a dryer with a concentrator attachment, a thermal brush, or a diffuser.
