Seasonal Slam or Slump? Tips to Survive the Summer Season

Different months of the year and different seasons can bring with it changes to customer and client flow for any business, and salons are no different. Where one salon might see a flurry of clients seeking hair-care or new styles for the summer or for events others might slow down. What is always true is that everyone can ready themselves for their summer rush or their summer slump by taking proper steps. Here are some tips to help keep you sane during the busy season or to help boost your client flow should your business be slow:

BUSY
Stock For the Season – As demand for services increases, you want to be adequalty stocked to meet demand to avoid running out of essential supplies or available products for your clients. Track what moves and what doesn’t so that you can properly order ahead without worrying about having too little (or even too much.)

Team Involvement – Having a game plan for your team is important to keep things flowing smoothly and to prevent any one person from shouldering too much of the work. Dividing up smaller duties such as ordering products, keeping track of client reservations, or reaching out to clients when needed, can help keep things running smoothly with less stress.

Take Breaks – Sometimes in the hustle and bustle we forget to take care of ourselves, especially with back-to-back clients. Taking a breather is essential for fighting lethargy and to making sure that you are giving your clients the full attention that they deserve. If you don’t take care of yourself, how will you take care of your clients?

SLOW
Offering Deals to Loyal Clients – Client retention is essential to the success of any salon. Bringing in new clients is always a wonderful goal but if people only visit once then you’re left searching for new people to take notice and pay a visit. Offering special deals to returning clients can keep them coming back and encourage them to spread the word to their friends or co-workers which could help boost your business.

Social Media Blasts – Social media can be extremely effective for bringing people into your establishment. Highlighting your services, sharing our client before and after pictures, and showcasing special deals and campaigns can get people to take notice. Take the plunge and jump on the hottest social media platforms or put together email blasts to keep your business thriving if it’s a slower period.

Seasonal Campaigns or Events – Seasonal campaigns are a wonderful way to attract people to your salon throughout the year. For the summer months consider offering special to clients attending weddings or an extra special deal to the bride-to-be; offer discounts on products that offer heat protection; or even attend or host a small seasonal event to attract people to your establishment. Sometimes the cost of such promotions can be recouped with new business.
