Home for the Holidays – Making Your Salon Holiday-Ready

As the holidays approach, we begin to see all manners of decorations popping up here and there: from twinkling lights to baubles to the occasional tree and beyond. While it seems like we begin seeing these earlier every year, it’s never too early to start preparing your salon for the holiday season. That’s not to say that you should place a tree in the center of your salon in July but taking small steps to help you prepare your business for the holidays can not only help you with planning but also gradually make your space into a comfortable winter haven for your clients.

Having a warm, inviting space can not only help to boost business but also morale. A charming, well planned window display can catch eyes from the street and pique curiosity, while having a festive and well-decorated interior space can make your salon feel more like a quaint holiday home rather than strictly-business. Here we will look at a few ideas to help you make your salon a home for the holidays.

START SMALL / MIND EXISTING DECOR

If you choose to start early (or even now) it’s a good idea to start small and build up from there. Little touches like garlands or wreaths can be a great way to begin and can allow you time and space to envision the broader look. This can also help you to make sure that what you select will mesh well with the existing décor and color palette of your salon. Even the best, most elegant decorations can look bad if they don’t blend well with the colors of your walls and equipment.

USE DECOR TO PROMOTE ITEMS

Creating a decorative display to promote various items or brands can not only help to draw attention to those products but can also help you to nail down a color palette. Choosing complimentary colors to go along with your bottles and tools can help you to build a pleasing, eye-catching display. Ornaments gathered in a glass enclosure acting as a table base for products can be classy, and adding little touches like small decorative centerpieces can pull it all together.

DON’T OVER THE BIG PIECES

While the alure of a massive tree can be difficult to ignore the price of such big-ticket items can add up and eat through your holiday budget quickly. That’s not to mention the fact that larger pieces take up more space and can lead to unintended clutter. Utilizing wall decorations like garland, wreaths, thin ornaments like snowflakes and stars, and even a touch of glitter or fake snow can help bring everything together in subtler ways. Starting smaller can also help you to figure out exactly what the bigger piece should be and how to properly decorate it to fit into your overall aesthetic.

EMPLOY FESTIVE TUNES AND LIGHTING

If you want to go the extra mile and make your salon feel even more like a holiday haven where your clients can go to unwind, feel cozy, and receive the stellar treatments that you have to offer, consider having a festive soundtrack playing in the background. Simple, quieter holiday tunes can create a calming atmosphere and help people to feel at ease. Slightly dimmer lighting (though not at the expense of you being able to work) can add to the effect. LED candles at your station can be a nice touch as well to help further set the mood.

There are many ways that you can make your salon a comfortable home for the holidays and it’s hard to go wrong, but starting early and planning things out can help you to make it the very best that it can be. Building up year over year can also save you money in the long run should your overall holiday look remain consistent, as you can pick up little bits over time and add small, new touches year over year.
